GRACE IN MT MAUNGANUI

Lead Engineer: Matthew Gilfoyle

Region: Mount Maunganui

Category: Living

Architect: Stevens Lawson

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Located in Mount Maunganui, this home is a standout example of how smart design can overcome challenging constraints. Situated on a tight site, the architect skillfully maximized the property’s potential, capturing breathtaking views of the Mount whilst retaining the original Bach at the rear—sentiment to the owner’s history. The result is a dwelling that feels spacious and inviting.

The structural framework seamlessly supports the architectural vision, from the striking roof skylight that hovers above the upper living area, to the breezeway brick screens, projected window frames, and the elegantly curved staircase—hallmark curves of Stevens Lawson’s signature style.

The structure itself combines the use of structural steel frames, lightweight timber framing, a robust brick exterior, plasterboard linings with touches of brick protruding interior; fully supported on a 400mm thick solid concrete slab designed to meet the demands of the TC2 ground conditions and shape of the home.

This project was a true collaboration between architectural creativity and structural precision. It was an honour to contribute to a home where form and function come together so effortlessly and beautifully.
