THE CHAPEL AT ST PETER'S

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

NZIA Judges Citation:

The chapel of Saint Peters College is a truly special building. Stevens Lawson vision of the building has an elegance to it that belies the structural demand placed upon it. The vaulted geometry and tight spaces snug around a skeleton of structural steel and timber. The building sits on non-engineered fill and its drive steel feet support a suspended concrete floor. The building is intersected by multiple horizontal and vertical skylights and windows that cross logical structural points. The geometry challenged the structure throughout the design process but ended in a beautiful crescendo of both architecture and engineering. This building was carefully crafted by the construction team at Aspec.
